‘Slab leaks and foundation failures are on the rise because of the changing Texas weather’

In Midlothian, Ennis, Waxahachie, Red Oak, Maypearl and all over North Central Texas the temperatures are fluctuating. Going from long days of 100+degree temperatures to wet rain and cold puts stress on pipes. Over time, that causes a slab leak.

Plumbing lines are vulnerable to soil shifts

It’s no coincidence that slab leaks increase as the days of cold weather increase. The long dry spell of the summer followed by cold, wet temperatures in the winter is taking a heavy toll on plumbing around Waxahachie. It doesn’t take much for movement in Waxahachie soil to crack a pipe or loosen a fitting on the buried water or gas line. Slab leaks happen because of the tremendous pressure involved and that pressure can cause the slab to give.  Imagine what that pressure does to the pipes running to your home. Don’t wait until your yard or home is flooded because of broken, busted pipes under your home. Slab leaks can cause major damage and be very costly.

Possible signs of a slab leak include:

Rerouting Plumbing Lines in a Slab Foundation

Accessing the lines in your concrete slab means digging through the concrete with a jackhammer, resulting in some pretty costly damage to your floors and time-consuming repairs. In some cases, the piping is so bad, this is only a bandaid repair to bad pipes under your home.

REROUTING IS A GOOD OPTION

Duncan Plumbing Solutions is able to reroute lines in about 80% of our slab leak repairs. Rerouting the pipes slab is typically the best option and best of all, a practical solution. Multiple leaks in a pipe can make repairs quite difficult, and you might decide that rerouting your piping makes more sense, saving time, money and flooring.

HOW TO REROUTE PIPES

First and foremost, it’s important to note that you should only allow a trained professional plumber to reroute your piping. Choosing the right location for the new piping and ensuring there are no leaks upon final inspection.

WHERE TO MOVE PIPES

Hot water pipes are often rerouted to the attic. In other cases, water pipes may be rerouted to walls and ceilings, and then insulated if necessary.

WHAT TYPE OF PIPING TO USE

Plumbers often use PEX piping to reroute pipes. It’s a flexible material that will make turns more easily and require fewer connections, which means a smaller chance of leaks. It often lasts longer than other piping materials when properly installed.
