There is everyday thing you can do in keeping your drains flowing. Here are some simple things you can do.
Using a drain screen: These screens can help you in many ways. They help collect food partials from going down your kitchen drain, you may also want to place one in the shower to help keep the hair from going down. Something else you can do to help reduce a clog is to brush your hair before getting in.
Placing your left-over food in the trash: When finished cooking those great meals you want to make sure to scrap off any food on those dirty dishes into the trash. Even the smallest pieces can cause your drains to clog.
Save the grease: You want to make sure not to pour grease, oils and fats down the drain. Oil and grease bond with other solids and over time can create giant clogs. So, you want to make sure to collect cooking grease in a can or glass jar and let it cool before placing it in the trash.
Garbage disposal: Even though “garbage” is in the name, it’s not a trash can. For this reason, you want to make sure to avoid foods and other objects such as eggshells, coffee grounds, meat and bones, starchy foods, fibrous products, and paper products from going down the drain. When using your disposal, you want to make sure you operate it using a constant flow of cold water and make sure you run the water about a minute after you turn your disposal off. I know you’re thinking, why not use hot water? While hot water allows greasy substances to break down and move down the drain, those broken bits can end up coagulating and creating a clog further down. Cold water allows the greasy substances to become more solid, in return allowing them to move down the drain easier, instead of sticking to the sides of the pipe.
